True Meaning of Faggot Explained on “Louie”

Props to Louis CK for this terrific scene. And pretty bold, considering. This is first show and this clip is an intro to the second episode, with no credits or music to distract us. I believe this is done on purpose because of the conversation.

In an interview, CK explains that audiences don’t realize how much thought is put into the jokes he tells, including the ones in which he uses the word Faggot, and other derogatory terms:

Yes, and we really do talk about these things. The poker scene came from a real conversation that I had with comedian Rick Crom. He’s like a journeyman, and has been around for a long time. I’ve know him for years. Once in my ’20s, I asked him about the word f—– and if he was offended when people used it. He didn’t lecture me or tell me to stop saying it. Instead, he said we’re all grown-ups and if it’s a funny joke, go ahead and say it, but hey, if you’re interested, the story behind the word is totally devastating.

As for the rest of the jokes about gay culture, I’ve seen him do a lot of shows at the Comedy Cellar telling stories about the gay lifestyle, and all of these hetero comedians will shriek and giggle like little girls when they hear them, and I always see him smirking and going, these guys are ridiculous. So my goal was to bring all of these dynamics together.

The rest of the interview is included here.
